Samsung has finally launched the Galaxy A8 officially in China. It’s one of the most feature-packed mid-range smartphones that the company has ever released and besides that it features an impressive metal build which really does lend a premium look and feel to the handset.
The Galaxy A8 features a 5.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display, a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 615 processor with 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, which is expandable with a microSD card support up to 128GB, 16-megapixel rear-facing camera, along with a 5MP front-facing camera, 4G LTE connectivity and a 3,050mAh battery. It also has a fingerprint sensor and it runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. All of this has been packed inside a metal frame that weighs 151g and is just 5.9mm thin, making it the thinnest smartphone to come from the manufacturer yet.
Currently, The Galaxy A8 has only been launched officially in China for now, where it’s available for pre-order in Black, White and Gold color options. No announcement has been made about other destinations for the device. If Samsung announces any more details on the device’s availability, we’ll let you know.

It is customary for Samsung to launch its Note flagships each year during IFA in Berlin, sometime around the beginning of September. This year, however, the South Korean manufacturer may consider launching the Galaxy Note 5 sometime in mid-August to avoid going up against the iPhone, which is also announced at roughly the same time.
That's according to The Wall Street Journal, Samsung is planning on changing its strategy to short-circuit Apple's yearly iPhone launch. It seems that the company wants to grab as big of a piece of the pie as it can before the others even arrive to the party. Samsung's 2014 profits hit a three-year low, and although it seems to be back on the right foot in 2015, its performance in the second quarter was below market expectations. An earlier Note 5 launch may give it enough leeway to improve its numbers in the third quarter.
This being a rumor, we can't know for sure how Samsung plans to unveil the Note 5. The latest round of rumors suggest that the upcoming Note 5 will feature a flat display, with no curved screen model in the Note series planned for this year. The vendor is said to be working on a Galaxy S6 edge Plus with a dual-curve 5.7-inch display, with both devices set to be unveiled at the same time.

Tips & Tricks
Like several other high-end Android phones, The ASUS ZenFone 2 has the option to change the theme of the user interface as well as the applications icons. It's easy to apply one of the many themes or icon packs and get a look that suits you better.
Long press on a blank spot on any of your home screens. You'll see some options pop up (and they are all worth exploring if you want to get that custom look) and the middle row is where you'll find the settings to change your theme or icons.
Give the one you want to change a tap and you'll find a few default options. Tap on any of them to apply that particular icon pack or theme and you're done.
You can also install other icon packs from Google Play and they are added to your list and can be used the same way. You can even design your own theme and send a mock-up directly to ASUS from the themes screen.
It only takes a few minutes to change the way your ZenFone 2 looks!

It looks like it's been successful enough for Motorola and Verizon to fast track the latest Moto X 2014 update, as the soak test for the update only began at the end of last week. Verizon announced the Android 5.1 over-the-air update in its usual way, so at least some users should see the update alert by the end of the day. The rest of you will be waiting for up to a week or more, unless you manage to track down the OTA ZIP file from a user forum.
According to the update information, there isn't much on top of Android 5.1 that's notable - not surprising, since Motorola's software builds tend to add only a few features on top of stock AOSP and Google functions. The only exception is the addition of factory reset protection, and Android 5.0 feature that oddly wasn't included in the Moto X's Lollipop update - the same thing happened to a few other phones.
Verizon continues its plodding locked bootloader policy, so it's unlikely that too many people have modified the Verizon version of the Moto X (especially since the Nexus 6 works on the network), but if you have, the update won't flash. We don't know how big the 5.1.1 update will be, but it's probably a doozy - you'll want to hop onto Wi-Fi when you get the notification.
